If you rent a car,you should pay for the full insurance. Some company’s will charge you for the rent for the car after an accident, while the car is being repaired. They will say that no one will rent a damaged car and will ask you to pay for the loss in income for them.

No it would not cover the rental car. Liability covers bodily injury & property damage for the other party, if you are at fault in an accident. You will need to carry comprehensive & collision coverage to satisfy the car rental company.

Your liability insurance should extend from your parked car to the rental but You should buy most of their other coverage (expensive). You may also be able to save a little money because most credit cards will pay for the collision damage waiver (CDW) if you use that card to pay for the rental. You need to check with your insurance company and your credit card company to see which coverages you already may have so you do not need to duplicate them
